Tiyi Shipalane Acquired by DC United

The City Islanders have announced that midfielder Tiyiselani "Tiyi" Shipalane, the 2009 USL Second Division Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-League selection, has been acquired by D.C. United of Major League Soccer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shipalane started 18 games for Harrisburg in 2009, recording six goals and six assists. He caught D.C. United's eye in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match between the clubs on July 7 (a 2-1 D.C. win).

"We'll certainly miss Tiyi, but this is a great opportunity for him," said City Islanders Head Coach Bill Becher. "I have no doubt he'll do well."

Harrisburg agreed to loan the 24-year-old to D.C. following the USL-2 season. He appeared in three CONCACAF Champions League games, starting in a 3-0 win over CD Marathon on September 24. Based on those performances, United exercised the option in the loan agreement to purchase Shipalane's rights.

He becomes the first City Islander to jump directly to MLS.

Before joining the City Islanders, Shipalane played three years for the Michigan Bucks of the PDL. He was a three-time All-American at Lindsey Wilson College and the 2006 NAIA Region XI Player of the Year.

Pro Team Open Tryout

The Harrisburg City Islanders will host their first open tryout of the 2010 season on Thursday December 17th and Friday December 18th at In The Net Sports Complex in an effort to find potential players for the upcoming season. Harrisburg will be holding the two day event under the direction of Head Coach Bill Becher and Assistant Coach Steve Widdowson. Each attending player will have the opportunity to showcase themselves in hopes of an invitation to preseason camp that opens in March. Every year the coaching staff has discovered a player or two from open tryouts and are sure this year will be no different. The event is open to the public. In their subsequent matches this season the Islanders fell to Richmond twice. First, on June 6th the Islanders received a 5-0 defeat on the road against Richmond. Then Richmond defeated Harrisburg 1-0 on City Island in July. Islander's head coach, Bill Becher says that the Isles, "look forward to the challenge, and certainly have something to prove on the road this Saturday in Richmond.

Tiyi Shipalane will be back in the Islander's blue after spending last week on loan to Major League Soccer's D.C. United. And, Islanders Geoff Bloes and David Schofield have been removed from the injured list.

The USL-2 post season officially begins this Wednesday, August 19th when the fourth and fifth seeds, Charlotte and Real Maryland play in the first round of playoffs. Islanders Host Baltimore in Final Regular Season Home Match

This Friday, August 7th the Islanders will kick-off in their last home match of the regular season against Crystal Palace Baltimore. This will be the third time this season that the two squads have faced off. The player's navy Nike jerseys will be auctioned off along with the keeper's sky blue jerseys. Rules will be posted at the auction site--the Surf City Party Zone. In the Semifinals, held the weekend of August 21-22, the winner of the First Round match will face off against the regular season champion while the second and third seeds meet.

The USL Second Division Championship will be played August 29 and will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel. All matches will be hosted by the higher seed, excluding the final, which is determined via bid.

The Islanders' opponent, the Reading Rage, have been apart of the USL for the last 14 years, playing in PDL since 2004 after eight seasons in the USL Second Division.  They consistently attract young, local talent from the Reading area.  Currently in first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the PDL with a record of 3-0-1, the Rage are defending 2008 PDL Eastern Conference Champions.

All teams in the United Soccer Federation are eligible to qualify for the 6-round, single elimination US Open Cup.  This includes teams from Major League Soccer, USL 1st and 2nd Division, USL Premier Development League, and the United States Adult Soccer Association.  The Open Cup is a great opportunity for teams from different leagues to play against new competition.  The Open Cup is always exciting to watch: anything can happen.

In one of the biggest victories in club history, the 2007 City Islanders squad upset Major League Soccer's DC United 1-0 in the Third Round of the US Open Cup.  Last year, the Islanders lost in the Second Round to Crystal Palace Baltimore in penalty kicks.  The Islanders are anxious to return to the Cup and take on the Reading Rage.

Kick off against the Rage is at 7:05 and Islander season ticket holders should use their "Event 1" tickets for admission to the game on Tuesday, June 9th.  The Second Round of the Cup is will take place on June 16, and Islanders participation is dependent on victory in the June 9th game.

City Islanders Memorial Day Match

This Friday, the Islanders look to kick off Memorial Day weekend with a victory as they take on the Charlotte Eagles. With the weather expected to be a pleasant 84 degrees, the Islanders will kick off at 7:05 on their home pitch on City Island's Skyline Sports Complex.

The Islanders will enter the game with quite a lot of momentum after shutting out the Pittsburgh Riverhounds twice last week. With 10 points and a record of 3-1-1, the Islanders are currently in second place in the USL Second Division. This Friday's opponent, the Charlotte Eagles are currently 1-2-2 in USL standings.

The Charlotte Eagles have a strong history in the league despite struggling so far this season. Never an easy victory, the Eagles will certainly be a tough opponent and it will be a fight for the three points. The Islander's will look for their third victory in a row against the Charlotte Eagles.

The Harrisburg Senators also have a game on Friday at 7pm,  so be sure to allow a few extra minutes for parking so that you can be there for the Islander's7:05 kick-off. Keystone State Rivalry: Rematch

This Saturday the City Islanders will face their Keystone State rivals the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The rematch of last weekend's game will be held at 7:05p.m. at Chartiers Valley High School in Pittsburgh's South Hills.

Last Saturday Harrisburg defeated Pittsburgh 3-0 at City Island's Skyline Sports Complex to remain undefeated at home and improve their record to 2-1-1. Chad Severs scored two first-half goals for the Islanders. Tiyi Shipalane put the game out of reach with a goal in the 59th minute when he finished off a pass from Jason Pelletier. Islander's keeper Chase Harrison maintained a clean slate after 90 minutes of play.

The Islanders will look to defeat the Riverhounds again-this time on the road. The Riverhounds will be without their starting keeper Zach Varga -after he received a red card on Saturday for a tackle in the box against Chad Severs. Islanders Jason Massie will also be unable to play due to his red card after coming on as a substitute in the second half.

A win this weekend is crucial not only in terms of pride, but also for USL standings. The Islanders are currently second in USL rankings; however the Riverhounds are just points behind and could tie it up with a win.

The Islanders next home game is Friday, May 22nd at 7:05pm against the Charlotte Eagles. Call (717)441-GOAL to order tickets today! Tickets will also be available at the stadium on game day. See you on the Island!

Islanders Travel to Bermuda

With the first win of 2009 under their belts, the City Islanders (1-0-1) turn their attention south as they travel to Bermuda for two games. On May 1st, the Islanders will take on USL-2 rival Bermuda Hogges (0-2-0). On Saturday May 2nd, they will play the Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) U-23 squad. Working with the Hogges to develop the growth of soccer in Bermuda, the BFA squad is comprised of amateur Bermudian players. Harrisburg will travel to Bermuda with two players on loan from MLS’s DC United, Anthony Peters and John Diraimondo, pending USL and USSF approval.

In 2008 the Islanders defeated the Hogges 4-2 in front of a sell-out crowd at Skyline Sports Complex. Six days later, they traveled to Bermuda and won 2-1. Harrisburg leads the all-time series 5-0.

With their five goals on the year scored by four different players, the City Islanders will look to keep up the offensive prowess that has highlighted the first two games of the season. With only eight players returning from the 2008 roster, the Islanders are excited to see how the new look of the team translates onto the playing field. "This is a very different team, with a fresh perspective, and that's what we need," said Head Coach Bill Becher. "We have a lot of confidence in these veterans and we're very excited about what the newcomers bring."

The Islanders wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 2-0 victory over Towson University. After posting a solid 4-1 preseason record, the team is ready to get the season underway. With only 10 days until the home opener on April 25th be sure to call 717-441-GOAL to reserve your tickets today!

Islanders Sign Local College Standout

The Harrisburg City Islanders have signed Messiah College standout Kai Kasiguran for the 2009 season.

As a four-year starter, Kasiguran led powerhouse Messiah College to three straight NCAA Division III National Championships (2004-2006) and four straight NCAA Final Four appearances. A four-time All-American and a three-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year, Kasiguran finished off his brilliant collegiate career by being named the NSCAA Division III National Player of the Year.

Kasiguran began his professional career in 2008 when Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire selected him in the first round (12th overall) in the Supplemental Draft. He spent the 2008 season with the Chicago Fire.

The Islanders are excited to welcome Kasiguran back to the area. With the addition of Kasiguran's skillful play to an already talented roster, the Islanders have proven that they are serious about taking back the title in 2009.

Islanders Add Three

The Islanders have kept up with their signing frenzy by adding three new players to the roster. Yona Banda, Nicki Paterson and Tiyiselani Shipalane will don the Islanders' jersey in 2009, pending USL and USSF approval.

Yona Banda, a tenacious defender, will add a physical presence to the Islanders' backline. Spotted at one of the Islanders' open tryouts, Banda's abilities shinned throughout the preseason camp and earned him a roster spot. The native of Zambia previously played in the top division of Zambian soccer for Zanaco F.C.

Nicki Paterson was a four-time high school player of the year in his native Scotland. He also played with Motherwell F.C. and Hamilton Academical F.C. of Scotland. The midfielder came to the States in 2005, where he continued his collegiate soccer career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During his time at UNLV, he started all nineteen games as a freshman. His success continued during his sophomore year, finishing tied for points and leading his team in assists. For his efforts, Paterson earned Second Team All-MPSF honors. Paterson will put on an Islanders jersey after two productive seasons with the PDL's elite Des Moines Menace. With the Menace his scoring prowess shined. In 28 games Paterson netted 15 goals and recorded 7 assists.

Tiyiselani (Tiyi) Shipalane joins the Islanders after playing the past three seasons for PDL's Michigan Bucks. In 49 matches he has 9 assists and scored 11 goals, including the game winner in the 2006 PDL Championship game. The Bucks won the PDL championship in 2006, went back to the PDL championship game in 2007 but lost, and won the 2008 PDL regular season championship. The crafty midfielder was drafted in 2008 by the indoor Detroit Ignition and spent time as a trialist with the MLS' Columbus Crew. Before beginning his professional soccer career, Shipalane racked up honors at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky. He was a three-time All-American and was named the 2006 NAIA Region XI Player of the Year.

With three more spots filled, the Islanders' 2009 roster is almost complete. The Islanders will kickoff in Richmond on April 18th and open at home on April 25th. Call 717-441-GOAL to reserve your tickets today!

Press Conference, Presented by Capital BlueCross

The Harrisburg City Islanders will introduce the bulk of an overhauled roster and unveil their 2009 Nike jersey in a press conference on Wednesday morning. The annual press conference is hosted by Capital BlueCross, a presenting sponsor of the Islanders.

The City Islanders' owners, coaches, and staff are pleased to unveil the largely revamped squad. Eight players will return from the 2008 Islanders, including Steve Fisher, Mo Oduor, and David Schofield, who have been with the team since its inaugural season. Two former City Islanders, Tim Velten and Harrisburg's all-time leading scorer Chad Severs, also have rejoined the team. The ten remaining roster spots are filled with players that boast international experience, playing time with the MLS, and PDL scoring dominance.

"This is a very different team, with a fresh perspective, and that's what we need," said Head Coach Bill Becher. "We have a lot of confidence in these veterans and we're very excited about what the newcomers bring. We'll look to hit the ground running and keep up the pace, because this league will be a huge challenge again this year."

Islanders Sign Six Pack

The City Islanders are excited to announce six more players to the 2009 roster. Fan favorites Mo Oduor and Nate Baker signed on for another season in Harrisburg. Tomer Chencinski, Jay Herford, Jason Massie, and Cody Reinberg will be new faces on the Island this season. All players are pending USL and USSF approval.

Mo Oduor will be returning to the City Islanders for his sixth season. The dangerous center midfielder will once again be a menace to opposing teams. Prior to joining the Islanders, the native of Eldoret, Kenya, played for the Carolina Dynamo and Long Island Rough Riders. He played the first two years of his collegiate career at the University of Charleston WV, where he earned All-American honors as a sophomore, before transferring to Furman University for his junior and senior years. Prior to coming to the States, Oduor earned time with the Under-20 Kenyan National Team.

After two successful seasons with the Islanders, Nate Baker has been resigned for 2009. Last season Baker played 1,449 minutes, starting 17 of the 18 games in which he played. He converted three penalty kicks during the season, resulting in the first three goals in his Islanders' career. Prior to coming to Harrisburg, Baker played at American University, starting 62 of his 77 career games. Serving as captain for two years, he helped lead the Eagles to the Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament in 2004.

Representing #14 for the Islanders this season will be Goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski. A native of Tel Aviv, Israel, Chencinski played for two seasons at Robert Morris University; ranking 16th in the country in saves per game in 2004. He then transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he played for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2007, Chencinski joined MLS' Toronto FC for the outdoor season and the now-defunct MISL's Detroit Ignition for the indoor season. In 2008, Chencinski spent the season with the  PDL's Newark Ironbound Express, he posted a 6-2-3 record with a 1.08 goals against average.

Jay Herford will add depth in goal for the Islanders. Herford was a two-year starter in net for Frostburg State University where he received All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Honorable Mention in 2007 and an All-Conference Second team pick in 2008. During his season at FSU, he ranked second with a goals against average of 0.77, third in save percentage (.797), and ninth in saves (59).

Jason Massie will join the Islanders' midfield in 2009. Born in England, Massie played his youth soccer in the elite Liverpool F.C. system. During his time with Liverpool, he rose from the U-12 to the Reserve Team Level. Massie also played for England's U-17 side. After spending the 2005 season with Prescot Cables F.C., Massie moved to the States to attend the University of Rio Grande in Ohio. While there he earned NAIA All-Region honors, All-Conference honors and was named an Honorable Mention All-American. Massie spent the past two summers playing with the elite PDL club, Cape Cod Crusaders.

A native of Missouri, Cody Reinberg joins the Islanders after a year with another elite PDL club the Des Moines Menace. Prior to joining the Menace, he was a four-year starter at Drury University in Springfield, MO. During his time as a Panther, Reinberg was an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Honorable Mention and All-Great Lakes Region Third team, and All-Conference First Team honors.

With the addition of the six pack, the Islanders only have a few spots to fill before kicking off the season against the Richmond Kickers on April 18th. Call 717-441-GOAL or visit cityislanders.com to reserve your tickets for the home opener against the Western Mass Pioneers on April 25th!

Islanders Add Three, Pierce Traded

The Harrisburg City Islanders are excited to announce three new additions to the roster. Chase Harrison and Phil Buffington have signed on to join the 2009 squad. Also, the Islanders have announced that defender Ryan Pierce has been traded to Crystal Palace Baltimore for Brandon Swartzendruber; all players are pending USL and USSF approval.

An established First Division keeper, Chase Harrison was selected in the third round of the 2006 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft by Real Salt Lake. After spending the majority of the 2006 season on loan with USL First Division Virginia Beach Mariners, Harrison joined the Rochester Rhinos in 2007. He started 18 games, with a 1.28 goals against average. After being traded to the Portland Timbers, he recorded 1.76 goals against average over six games. Before beginning his professional career, Harrison tended the net for the Virginia Tech Hokies, breaking several records in the process. He finished his Hokie career in 2005 with 24 career shutouts. He played in over 7,000 minutes and averaged 1.12 goals against for his career. In a nod to his alma mater, Harrison will wear number 32 this year in honor of the 32 students killed at Virginia Tech in 2007.

Phillip Buffington, will begin his USL professional career as an Islander. Scouted by the coaches at he USL combine, Buffington brings an impressive resume into his rookie season. In his first season with USL's PDL Mississippi Brilla, he finished second on the team in scoring. During the 2008 season, he doubled his goal production, leading the team with 8 goals on the year. Prior to his PDL success, Buffington excelled at Mississippi College. A three-time All-Conference First Team and All-Region Second team pick, Buffington set a school record and tied the conference's all-time mark by scoring 54 goals over three seasons.  He will look to transfer his past scoring success into goals on the Island.

Though a rookie to the USL-2, Brandon Swartzendruber is a natural goal scorer. He proved his scoring ability during two impressive seasons with the USL's PDL Thunder Bay Chill. During the 2007 season, he scored 16 goals and recorded 4 assists, finishing second in the PDL for both goals and points. He continued his scoring success in 2008, scoring 13 goals and adding 8 assists, leading the Chill to the PDL Championship. A five-time PDL team of the week selection over two seasons, Swartzendruber was selected to the PDL All-Central Conference team for the 2008 season. Collegiately, Swartzendruber spent two seasons with Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Scoring 38 goals and 16 assists, he was a two-time First Team All-Region I and Second Team All-American. After transferring to Midwestern State University, Swartzendruber scored 26 goals and 18 assists over two seasons. He was named to the First Team All-Southwest South Conference, Southwest South Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and to the All-Midwest Region First Team.

Though the Islanders will miss Pierce's presence on the backline, the addition of Harrison in net and the scoring threats of Buffington and Swartzendruber, there is no doubt the Islanders will be on a quest for their second championship in '09.

Welcome Back Fisher & Velten

Two more familiar faces will be back on the Island this summer. The City Islanders are happy to announce the return of Steve Fisher and Tim Velten to the 2009 roster, pending USL and USSF approval.

A native of Hershey PA, Fisher will be returning for his sixth season as an Islander. Fisher a graduate of Lehigh University, had an immediate impact on the Islanders' record books when he scored for the club's first-ever goal on May 8, 2004. An important part of the Islanders' roster from its beginning, Fisher will look to continue his success through 2009.

After spending the 2008 season with USL's First Division team Charleston Battery, Tim Velten will return to the Island in 2009. Velten was a key member of the 2007 championship backline. He played in over 1600 minutes and recorded one goal for the Islanders. Before playing in the USL, Velten played for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he started all 39 games of his freshman and sophomore season. Velten then transferred to the University of Louisville, starting in 34 games during his junior and senior season there.

With preseason camp opening on March 16, Fisher and Velten will look to use their experience and talent to help lead the Islanders back to the playoffs in 2009.

Chad Severs Returns to Harrisburg

Your mind isn't playing tricks with you; the blast from the past running around City Island is not a mirage. He's back! The City Islanders are proud to announce the return of Chad Severs for the upcoming season (pending USSF approval).

Described as tireless, speedy, and relentless, Severs played collegiate with Penn State University, finishing with 38 career goals and 90 career points in 85 games. After college, Severs netted 14 goals in 20 games during his rookie Islanders' campaign. His incredible talent didn't go unnoticed as the USL-1 Rochester Rhinos quickly signed him. Over three seasons with the Rhinos, he's appeared in over 25 games, scoring 3 goals. While on a month long loan to Harrisburg in 2007, Severs played a vital role in the Islander's championship run with 4 goals in 7 games. In the same year, Severs appeared in 11 games with Otago United of the New Zealand Football Championship.

Now back from his stints with the Rochester Rhinos and down under, Severs wearing his lucky #20 is poised to build upon his past scoring success with the Islanders (22 goals in 33 career games). Severs' dangerous presence up front will keep the fans on their feet and opposing defenders on their heels as the Islanders begin their quest to make their fifth trip to the playoffs in six years.

2009 Schedule Released

With the first whistle of the season only 66 days away, the City Islanders are excited to announce their 2009 schedule. Click for Full Schedule

Looking to build off of 2008's 8-3-12 campaign, it has been a busy off-season in the Islanders front office. The management and coaches have been preparing for another action packed season on City Island. Players are getting fit, and familiar sponsors will continue to support the Islanders' quest for their second championship in three years.

Adding to returning fan favorites, such as Dustin Bixler and David Schofield, coaches Bill Becher and Steve Widdowson have been busy scouting talent. Through the Info Sports Combine in Florida, the USL combine in South Carolina, and the Islanders' open tryouts in Harrisburg, hundreds of potential players have been seen and evaluated. The level of play at the tryouts made it clear that the Islanders will have what it takes to contend for the title once more. If you missed out on the previous tryouts, there's still time to lace up your boots and impress the coaches. The Islanders' last open tryout before preseason camp opens March 16 will be held March 11 at In The Net.

The roster won't be the only thing to have a new look in 2009. Fans will be excited to see changes happening on City Island as well. The baseball infield has been removed and replaced with grass to ensure smooth play throughout the pitch. Fans will be able to enjoy their Troegs Beer, Turkey Hill Lemonade, Bricker's French Fries and of course great soccer without a backstop hindering their view. And the fun won't stop after the final whistle. You can join the Islanders players and staff at their new post-game party location at Sam Bucca's Pizza Pub downtown on 2nd street.

During the off-season, you may have seen a few Islanders players out in the community. Winter youth clinics have been held at In the Net and Twin Ponds West to help spread quality soccer throughout the region. Tiki Mon and players have been visiting local schools as part of the Capital BlueCross' "Mind, Body, Soccer" assemblies program to promote healthy living.

With so much going on, the grass promises to be greener, both figuratively and literally, during the Islanders' sixth season. Season Tickets are on sale now, so be sure to get yours today. Mark your calendars and we'll see you on the Island!

Islanders Re-Sign Four Players for 2009

The Harrisburg City Islanders are pleased to announce that they have re-signed four players. The team welcomes defenders Dustin Bixler and Anthony Calvano, as well as midfielder Jason Pelletier and forward Geoff Bloes. All four were integral parts of the team in 2008 and should be even bigger in 2009.

Bixler, in 2007 was named the MVP of the USL Second Division Finals, returns to Harrisburg for a fifth season to anchor the back line from his central spot. Also a team captain in 2008, Bixler logged just over fifteen hundred minutes in seventeen games. His leadership and calm presence in the back are a large influence on the Islanders consistently low goals against average. Bixler hails from the Redland area and is now fourth on the Islanders all time games played list with seventy-one games in hand (Fisher 83, Schofield 80, Odour 72).

Partnering Bixler along the Islanders back line will be outside back Anthony Calvano who is returning for his third season in Harrisburg. Calvano, a Penn State graduate, logged every minute of every game for the Isles in 2007 but was limited to only twelve games in 2008 due to injuries. A quick and strong defender, Calvano not only frustrates opponents but is commonly found in the attacking half of the field looking to get on the end of restarts and to provide quality service into the box.

Jason Pelletier and Geoff Bloes will return to the Islanders for their sophomore seasons after having excellent opening campaigns. Both players, who grew up in the Harrisburg area and attended Middletown High School together, showed great promise and poise throughout their first season and will be looked toward for even greater contributions in 2009. It will be Pelletier’s slick ball skills and passing that will earn him a more defined role in Coach Bill Becher’s midfield and the raw athleticism and quickness of Bloes that should see him appear as both a forward and as an outside back. Pelletier finished the year having played in seventeen games and contributing one goal while Bloes appeared in five games and also contributed one goal.

With the re-signing of these four players the City Islanders have begun securing the framework for the 2009 team. These four players all have ties to the Harrisburg area with Bixler, Bloes, and Pelletier attending local high schools. Calvano spent his college years at Penn State University. All of these players reside in the Harrisburg area year round and are actively working and coaching in the Central Pennsylvania soccer community.

Season tickets for the 2009 season are now on sale and can be purchased online or by calling the office at 717-441-GOAL.

Brendan O’Reilly for the next three years. The official logo of the Four Points by Sheraton’s Pub, T. Brendan O’Reilly will appear on the game day uniform of the Islanders as part of the corporate partnership.

The introduction of the Four Points by Sheraton and T. Brendan O’Reilly to the growing list of corporate partners gives the City Islanders a premier hotel property with first class amenities,  quality service, and a perfect location to serve the club’s needs in both downtown Harrisburg and the surrounding community. “We are extremely pleased and excited to be working with the Four Points by Sheraton for the upcoming year and beyond”, said Islanders general manager Mike Henning. “It’s an exceptional property with everything we could need.  Our incoming teams, both professional and youth, will be well taken care of and they will undoubtedly enjoy their stays here in Harrisburg”.

The Four Points by Sheraton property houses 174 newly renovated rooms and suites along with the authentic Irish Pub & Restaurant, T. Brendan O’Reilly. Conveniently located near the Harrisburg International Airport, downtown Harrisburg, Hershey Park, and a confluence of major interstates, the property is an ideal location for local and out of town guests.

The Harrisburg City Islanders will open their 2009 campaign in late April and will announce the official schedule when it is released by league later this month. Season tickets are now on sale with more information available on the website or by calling 717-441-4625.

Islanders Host Second Open Tryout

The Harrisburg City Islanders will host their second open tryout on Monday January 19th and Tuesday January 20th at In The Net Sports Complex in Palmyra, PA in an effort to find potential players for the upcoming 2009 season. Harrisburg will be holding the two day event under the direction of Head Coach Bill Becher and Assistant Coach Steve Widdowson. Each attending player will have the opportunity to showcase themselves against not only other trialists, but some of the returning City Islanders players.

The Harrisburg City Islanders hosted their first open tryout this past December and were incredibly pleased with the quality and outcome of the event. Head Coach Bill Becher said that “there is no question the December event was a success, and we are hoping to duplicate that here in January. I’m pleased with the quality of the current sign up list and if things go well I’m sure we will be inviting some of these players into our preseason training camp that opens March 16th”.  Becher went on to add that “every year we’ve found a player or two from events like this and I’d imagine this will be the same, I’m looking forward to it”.

Interested players should pre-register for the open tryout online or contact the front office at 717-441-4625 by Friday, January 16th.
