U12 Boys
U12-Boys-Kirkwood Delaware
1st game - U12 Boys against Montclair United SC. Even though some of their players had us beat with size, our boys had them beat with skill. Andrei Kin #5 started out strong with Soren Frost #19 on an offensive attack. As usual Phil Overton #17, Nick Miller #21, and Keegan Wilson #20 all held a strong defensive line. Andrei Kin #5 and Julian Burton #6 worked well to double team, not giving Montclair any room. Goalie, Nick Sincavage, had a total of 11 saves, two of which he came out to clear with a kick.
In the first half, Soren Frost #19 assisted to Brady Wilt #9, who put us on the board with our 1st goal. Spencer Burkhardt #4 sent another one in after Corey Burkhardt #3 sent it to him to give us a 2-0 lead. Second half, Corey Burkhardt #3 had another assist to Andrei Kin #5, who put the ball in for our 3rd goal of the game. Feeling a little confident, our boys slowed down a bit giving Montclair an opportunity to send two low balls pass Goalie, Nick Sincavage. Our team did well with moving the ball around and trying to control the middle with some nice passes between Spencer Jackson #7, Duncan Mitchell #13, Corey Burkhardt #3, and Andrei Kin #5. Austin Miller #16 started a nice play to Sam Ernst #2, who sent it over towards Spencer Burkhardt #4. It was a great first game to watch with a 3-2 final.
Shots on goal: Keegan Wilson #20, Jacob Roman #14, Austin Miller #16, and Sam Ernst #2.
2nd game-U 12 Boys against Hockessin SC Thunder from Delaware, and due to severe weather; the game was called complete about 5 minutes into the 2nd half.
Hockessin scored 1st after Goalie, Nick Sincavage was able to stop their first attempt, but was unable to thwart their rebound. We quickly came back as Brady Wilt #9 sent the ball towards the goal and Soren Frost # 19 nicely placed it in the net to tie the game.
We had some great passes and a few opportunities to move ahead; however, time ran out when the whistle blew to stop the game. Unfortunately, the weather continued, and according to tournament rules, our game was more than ½ over; therefore, the game will remain at a 1-1 tie final. (All games were canceled for the remainder of the day)
Saves by Goalie, Nick Sincavage: 5 ; Shots on goal: Duncan Mitchell #13, Spencer Burkhardt #4, Brady Wilt #9, and Jacob Roman #14 ; Assist: Brady Wilt #9; Goal: Soren Frost #19
Injuries: Austin Miller #17 and Soren Frost #19. (Both are better)
FINAL OUTCOME: Sunday’s games cancelled in our age divisions. Points were based on the 2 games played, resulting in 2nd place.
The U11 boys vs. U12 boys; Game ends in overtime.
The boys had the pleasure of playing against the younger CI-U11 team. Even though they were younger, the U11 boys came out ready to play. The U12 boys may have underestimated U11’s tenacity and desire to win.
The team had many chances on goal with some great passes between Spencer Jackson #7, to Spencer Burkhardt #4, who sent it to Duncan Mitchell #13. Shane Gill #8 and Brady Wilt #9 worked well together up front with moving the ball around while looking for options. Austin Miller #16 took a great corner as he played it off short to Soren Frost #19, who sent the ball to the middle causing a U11player to get a head on it and send it out. Our defenders Phil Overton #17, Keegan Willson #20, Sam Ernst #2, and Nick Miller #21 all protected our goal as they formed a solid wall.
The parents thought the boys were going to pick up the pace a bit in the second half, but the U11 team was not going to make it easy. Before we knew it the U11 were able to put the first goal in for a 0-1 lead. Even though they scored first, U12 kept pounding shots towards their keeper. Some were over the goal or slightly wide left and right. As the clock ticked away, we wondered why none of our 20 shots on goal were able to find its target, when Spencer Jackson #7, decided he was going to send one flying over the keepers head for a 1-1 tie.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie and per tournament rules, the overtime set-up was: 7 players from each team on the field without a keeper. (Goalie, Nick Sincavage was able to rest) Golden Goal wins. It didn’t take long for U12 boys to work the ball towards the U11 goal, when Keegan Willson #20 sent the ball in from the right corner allowing Nick Miller #21 to tap it in with his head. Final score 2-1 U12 Boys.
The U12 boys lost in the finals to Baltimore Bays but placed 2nd in the tournament.
Goalie, Nick Sincavage reflexes were on fire, as he stopped several balls from finding a restful place on the crisscross rope. Some were high ones, some were quick, strong, low shots. Most of the Bay’s first shots were stopped by Nick, but the follow from another Bays player helped to tip them in for a couple of goals.
First half score 1-3.
The 2nd half started with a BANG! The Bays were given a PK! Goalie, Nick Sincavage, used his quick agility to shut that shot down. The boys were pumped! What goes around comes around because our turn at a PK came shortly afterwards. Austin Miller #16 drew the foul in the box and Spencer Burkhardt # 4 placed it low and right for a 2-3 score. This had become a very close game. Although the defensive skill and speed of our back line was strong, the Bays scored 2 more goals for 2-5 final.
We were probably the most competitive team the Bays encountered. Coach Bobby had encouraging words for the team during the presentation of awards when he told them to remember it is better to play in a high-level competitive game and learn from it, than to dominate several games with a high score spread.
