In 2006 (his third year as a pro), Kern posted career highs games played and starts (15, fourth among USL-2 keepers), minutes played (1350, fourth), and saves (51, seventh). He was also tied for third with six wins. The 26-year-old started the club’s final 12 games, posting 45 saves over that stretch. He was named to the USL-2 Team of the Week on July 17 (Week 13).

In 2005, Kern went undefeated in the regular season (10-0-1) and ended the summer with a personal 15-game unbeaten streak intact (beginning May 22, 2004; it was snapped in the club’s first game of 2006). He finished third in the league in wins, fifth in goals against average (0.98) and goalkeeper minutes played (1,010), and tied for second with a team record five shutouts. Kern was also in goal for both of Harrisburg’s playoff games against the Charlotte Eagles, including a seven-save shutout on August 18.

As a rookie in 2004, Kern posted a 1.38 goals against average and led the team in wins (five) and saves (41). He started and won the first game in team history on April 17 in Northern Virginia.

Kern enjoyed a fine career at College Misericordia before graduating in 2002, snagging All-PAC honors in 2000 (First Team), 2001 (Second Team), and 2002 (First Team). In 2000, he posted a 0.75 goals against average, helping Misericordia to the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Kern was named the Cougars’ MVP in 2001 and 2002.

His final start of the year (in which he sustained an injury that ended his season) was a six-save clean sheet at Western Mass.

Bishop signed with Harrisburg in May of 2005. The goalkeeper’s lone appearance of the season came as a field player, as he replaced midfielder Derek Potteiger for the final six minutes of the club’s season finale on August 13.

His career at Lehigh University culminated in outstanding junior and senior years: in 2003, he went 9-4-7 with a 0.64 goals against average, and in 2004, he posted a 7-4-2 mark and a 0.63 gaa. He earned All-Patriot League recognition both years.

He also accounted for a pair of game-winning assists and one game-winning goal. He was a USL-2 Team of the Week pick on July 5 (Week 11) and August 2 (Week 15).

Capable of physically matching up with the league’s most aggressive strikers and rangy enough to hold his own with speedsters, the 24-year-old led Harrisburg in minutes played for the second straight year (1,710), and was named to a pair of USL-2 Teams of the Week (June 12 and 26).

As a rookie, the graduate of Lock Haven University and local Red Land High School started Harrisburg’s first 15 games in the central defense (1,350 consecutive minutes) before serving a one-game suspension for accumulated disciplinary points on July 23.
